Caving Huts


When on a trip, we stay in self-catered caving huts, run by various local clubs around the country. Some, like the Cottages and the Belfry, are close enough to the area's caves to get changed at the hut; otherwise we get changed at the cave. Below are the huts we visit most regularly.

Derbyshire Chapel Works

Description: Located in the centre of Castleton, home to Peak Cavern and Titan and a short drive from the other classic Peak caves. It provides convenient accommodation for with local shops, cafes and six pubs all within one minute's walk.
The Belfry

Description: The Belfry, near Priddy Village on the Mendip Hills of Somerset, is excellently located for Mendip caving. It has a kitchen and common room, kit storage, showers and a changing room.
The Cottages

Description: SWCC Headquarters and caving hut is a converted terrace of 10 small cottages at Penwyllt, south Wales. It has a huge kitchen, 2 common rooms, showers, a drying room and male & female changing rooms.

Description: Greenclose is a stone-built farmhouse just outside the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Large common room adjacent to the kitchen, tackle store, drying room and showers. Designated guest bunk room.
The Old Schoolhouse

Description: Previously a school, now a caving hut with an excellent SRT training facility along with a large kitchen, lounge, dining room, drying room, tackle store and showers. A short drive from Gaping Gill and other popular Yorkshire caves.
Bull Pot Farm

Description: Bull Pot Farm is a large farmhouse at the end of a long, winding road. Very convenient for the Easegill System and Bull Pot of the Witches, it has two common rooms, two kitchens, a drying room, a changing room and showers.
